The Process

In a day-long private workshop, one couple is given exclusive use of the Nick Engel & Co. shop to build their own custom wedding bands - no prior experience required! Under the expert direction of a Nick Engel & Co. jeweler, you will design and handcraft your very own wedding rings.

Based on your preference, you will be provided with 3” of flat solid gold or platinum wire in the following measurements:

  • Slender [ 3mm x 2mm ]

  • Narrow [ 5mm x 2mm ]

  • Medium [ 6mm x 2mm ]

  • Wide [ 8mm x 2mm ]

To be able to experience and honor the old world process of jewelry making, you will work with your “client” or in this case your partner, to achieve the final aesthetic, width, fit, and finish, of their choosing. We will guide you on how to get there and with what tools!

  • Payment due in full prior to workshop

  • Safety/Release form filled out and emailed to prior to workshop

  • Start time of 10:30am (plan to spend anywhere from 4 to 6 hours with us)

  • Please arrive with closed toe shoes, hair tied back, and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty

  • Lunch will be provided

  • We will photograph your experience so you can focus fully on the craft (surprise gift to follow post workshop!)

  • Champagne, wine, or whiskey toast

  • Leave with two fully finished wedding bands

The memories created and meaning behind your new jewelry will be priceless and something to treasure forever.

We decided to make our wedding rings ourselves to not only personalize the bands, but also personalize the experience. Our goal was to create simple, matching rings whose beauty came from our hearts and hands. Also, as scientists, we were curious to learn how a wedding ring was made. When we first saw the strips of platinum, it was hard to believe that at the end of the day, we would walk out with two perfectly fitted rings. Nick’s relaxed teaching style set the tone for the afternoon - he answered all of our questions, provided the appropriate amount of guidance, and made the process fun. We are thrilled to have found Nick and absolutely love our rings. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

"Nick is a phenomenal jeweler and person. I STRONGLY recommend his "build your own" workshop for wedding bands. Over 5-6 hours on a Saturday, my fiancé and I each built each other's wedding bands from scratch. Along with the symbolic meaning behind this process, it was also just a blast spending the day with him. Afterwards, we got a beautiful book with pictures from the day, something we'll always be able to look back on. He truly loves his craft, cares about his clients, and holds himself to the highest standards without even a hint of pretension."

Nick and Katie worked with my husband and me to build our wedding bands. We started in the morning with bars of platinum and worked until we had the most beautiful results! Nick and Katie were the perfect balance of guidance and hands-off exploration. They allowed us to make mistakes and then fix them, and the entire experience was amazing. We are so happy and proud to have created two heirlooms with such wonderful backstories for our new family, and we plan on going to Nick in the future any time we need jewelry.
