Anne & Brett
How they met
Anne and Brett met during their freshman year at Stanford in 2005. Anne's first memory of Brett was that he was sitting in the hall trying to work out a difficult physics equation, and she stepped over him on her way out for the night.
They started dating in the Spring of 2006, and have been together ever since. They got engaged on May 24th, 2014 while in Florence Italy. Anne had just taken the Step 1 exam after the end of her second year of medical school, and her family and Brett traveled to Florence and Rome to celebrate.
"A couple of days into the trip to Italy, I brought Brett to Piazzale Michelangelo which is a square that overlooks all of Florence. I had studied abroad there during college so wanted to take him to some of my favorite spots. Brett knew he wanted to propose to me on the trip, but I think I inadvertently convinced him that this would be the perfect spot. Later that same day we went to dinner with my parents. I remember when we were getting ready, Brett said we should dress up. I told him we didn't have to because it was a casual place, but he kept insisting which I thought was weird and kind of annoying. I relented and put on a dress.
At the restaurant, after we had our entrees, Brett suggested that he and I should go back up to the piazza to watch the sunset. My parents, who Brett had asked about the engagement just the morning before while I was sound asleep in the hotel room, realized what Brett was planning and urged us to go. I thought it was kind of rude to leave my parents before the check arrived, so again I put up some resistance. Finally, I agreed and we grabbed a cab up to the piazza.
Once we got there and Brett realized he only had a few minutes before the end of sunset, he asked someone to take a picture of us, turned around, got on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes!" - Anne
"I went to Nick to make a custom engagement ring for Anne armed only with vague ideas about what I was looking for and what she would like, and no experience with designing or making jewelry whatsoever. The ring he ended up making was absolutely incredible, and beyond even my lofty expectations. It's unique, elegant and beautiful, and Anne is literally obsessed with it. Nick knew what I was looking for better than I did, and executed the vision with craftsmanship and an attention to detail that are hard to find these days. He's also just a genuinely great guy, and helped me every step of the way through what would otherwise have been a daunting process. He made one of the most important events in our lives that much more special, and Anne and I cannot recommend him highly enough." -Brett
The wedding is planned for May 2016.
